By reviewer Walter M. Wininsky: I was watching TCM today and happened upon Rio Lobo. I was immediately struck with the inventiveness of the music. Orchestral, but with acoustic and electric guitar and harmonica. Having missed the opening credits I went online and discovered that the composer was Jerry Goldsmith. This came as no surprise. Goldsmith is one of the most eclectic composers in Hollywood. Many film composers can be recognized immediately. Not so much with Goldsmith, and in my opinion this is a good thing. His ability to fit the feel of the music to the atmosphere of the movie is unsurpassed. Jerry Goldsmith has been composing music for major films for many years. Although he is probably better known for his more recent works, the soundtrack to Rio Lobo (1970) is a masterpiece and well worth hearing.
