John Travolta, Paris Hilton, Charlie Sheen & Pauly Shore are Among the Least Believable in These Rugged Country Roles
MILWAUKEE, WI., September 24, 2012 – Since the silent era, hundreds of actors have attempted to bring the image of rugged cowboys and ranchers, and that more humble one of the American hardworking farmers, to life on the silver screen and television. Some acting legends like Clint Eastwood, John Wayne and Robert Duvall have been pitch perfect in their portrayals, while others have missed the mark…completely!
Now, thanks to Farm & Ranch Living Magazine, we know that when it comes to raising livestock, growing crops and riding horses Clint Eastwood and John Wayne (in anything), Sissy Spacek in The River and Renée Zellweger in Cold Mountain are among the most credible in Hollywood, according to readers of America’s popular magazine dedicated to families who love to live off the land. While John Travolta in Urban Cowboy, Billy Crystal in City Slickers, Sharon Stone in The Quick & The Dead and Jane Fonda in Cat Ballou are among the least believable.

“Less than 1% of Americans earn a living on the land these days,” notes Farm & Ranch Living editor Robin Hoffman. “So our readers always root for actors to get it right when they portray farmers or ranchers, because that’s often the public’s only image of the families that produce America’s food. It’s been fun to see which actors made the grade, and which could’ve used another couple weeks herding cattle or harvesting corn.”
